A lovely relaxing weekend at Wells and the Barn. The snow made the Forest look magical. Hope to be back soon.

Wells Next The Sea

Hideaway Barn is located just off the quayside in Wells-next-the-Sea. A short stroll from the Barn takes you to Staithe Street where you will still find traditional butchers and bakers along with trendy boutiques, galleries, cafes and gift shops.

Gillying (fishing for crabs) from the quayside provides hours of entertainment. Don't forget to put them all back before satisfying your appetite with delicious fish and chips from French's. Or head in the opposite direction to take in the superb Georgian architecture of the Buttlands stopping for refreshments at The Crown or The Globe, two fab gastro pubs that overlook the green.

Following the channel from the quayside, you can walk, drive or cycle the mile or so to the stunning beach or catch the miniature steam train - the first to gain a World Record for the narrowest gauge on which a scheduled passenger service runs!

Head straight to the beach or take the circular walk through the pinewoods to take in the amazing Holkham Bay (Coast Magazine's ‘Best British Beach’) before returning along Wells beach, past the colourful beach huts. Either way, don't go home without a visit to the fab beach cafe - a must for delicious cakes from Holkham Bakery, baguettes filled with local sausages or maybe hot chocolate, topped with cream and marshmallows. You can even collect a picnic for the kids, in a free beach bucket (what else!)
